The paper presents the results of thermotropic liquid crystals studies for diagnostics of shear stresses induced by near-wall flow. Two approaches are outlined: textural transition from confocal to planar texture and selective reflection shift of planar texture under shear stress. Spectral and colorimetric calibrations versus shear stress are given.
