Study of elastic stresses in transparent materials by correlation method
Visualization method is proposed for elastic stresses in transparent materials (for example plexiglas) by measuring the change of the optical density. The gradient of the optical density is measured using correlation method. Model experiment was done with different configurations of transverse static load applied to a plexiglas sample of section 5x5 mm. It is shown that the cross section of the displacement of the background picture corresponds to the stress distribution in the sample.
