Inlet effects on the behaviour of solid particles at their gravitational sedimentation in smooth and dimple wall pipes

The effect of feeding on the motion of solid particles in smooth and dimple formed pipes is experimentally investigated. The 50, 100 and 200 m spherical glass particles and 100 and 150 m spherical iron particles were used in experiments. By means of a PIV-method measurements of solid particle velocities are carried out at an entrance and an exit of test section. It is shown that the initial intensification or suppression of radial movement of particles influences a particulate flow in the pipes.
