Application of the correlation method for determination of camera distortion and chromatic aberration

A simple way of determination and subsequent deletion of the geometric distortions introduced by a system of registration of images, including chromatic aberration, is proposed. The virtual calibration object is represented on a flat surface and photographed through the optical system under test. The correlation method is used to compare the digital image with the digital calibration object, deformed by projective transformation for the correspondence to the angle of view of the image. As a result the matrix of the point displacement (i.e. the objective distortion) is determined for all the picture area.
